How many other books do you know in which a character holds deep resentment against a particular form of punctuation? That's right, none. And to my delight, no vampires, werewolves, or paranormal creatures showed up in the story, unless you'd consider semicolons to be paranormal creatures, which would be taking things too far (although if anyone would like to make the argument that they are paranormal, I'll listen). At any rate, to me the book was about the psychology of a young writer reacting to a strange and confusing real-life situation: his first or near-first adult relationship. . . .
